Stuck in the middle
The ‘news’ that there is a North-South divide in the responses and attitudes towards HS2 comes as no surprise. For many southern constituencies the line will cut through, but not serve, the project is an expensive waste of resources and a blight on a beautiful landscape.
But the northern cities are the ones which stand to benefit significantly from closer journey times to London. Understandably there will be higher levels of support from these areas.
Whilst it would be biased to give additional precedence to opinion that is often dismissed as ‘nimby’ concern, it would be equally prejudiced to listen solely to the support for the line from up north.
