Today (April 22nd 2022) marks the 10 year anniversary of the founding of Women in Rail and draws focus on the organisations important work over the last decade.
The organisations has delivered a platform to help stop women from feeling isolated in the rail industry since its inception in 2012.
Since its founding a decade ago Women in Rail has continually supported diversity and inclusion in rail.
In 2016 Women in Rail gained charity status and its volunteers work to work to change the perception of the rail industry, a traditionally gender imbalanced industry.
Over 60 workshops are delivered by the charity’s volunteers each year which cover a wide range of topics.
Christine Fernandes, Chair of Women in Rail said: “Today marks 10 years since Women in Rail was launched!
“Our 10th Anniversary is a time to celebrate the progress that has been made in improving gender balance, equality, diversity and inclusion in the UK rail industry.
“I would like to extend a huge thank you to our fellow members and supporters - and a special thanks to our founder, Adeline Ginn MBE.
“Whilst the Women in Rail charity has already delivered significant impact to improve awareness and support there is more work to be done.
“We need to showcase the industry’s full potential to inspire people to choose a career in rail by embracing diversity and inclusivity.
“Here's to the next 10 years, as we continue to inspire change and improve the rail industry for all!”
The charity has achieved many important milestones over the past decade including the launch of the Women in Rail Awards in 2018.
Women in Rail also launched its job board in 2017 for employers looking to recruit women to roles in rail.
