South Western Railway (SWR) has announced the completion of its Petersfield Community Hub refurbishment project located next to Petersfield railway station.
SWR invested £45,000 towards the project from its Customer and Communities Improvement Fund (CCIF) to improve the facilities available on its network.
Petersfield residents will now see the former Red Star parcels office has been revamped with heating and electrics upgrades, a new security door, a clean water feed and developed bathroom and kitchen facilities.
Mark Youngman, Customer and Communities Improvement Fund Manager at SWR said: “We are delighted to complete this makeover of the Hub in Petersfield.
“We understand the pivotal role the Hub plays in the community for both locals and visitors to the area.
“We are pleased that we were able to help transform the facilities, unlocking an expansion of community services offered by the Hub and Community Rail Partnership.”
Mark Miller, East Hampshire Community Rail Partnership Officer spoke about the collaboration with SWR.
Mr Miller said: “This has been a fantastic project and we are thrilled with the investment put into the Hub by South Western Railway.
“East Hampshire Community Rail Partnership has been running the Tourist Information Point and Free Shop facility at the Hub for the past few years on a lease from SWR.
“This investment meets many of our aspirations to enhance facilities so that we can encourage more community use of the Hub.
“It has been great working in partnership with SWR and we are so grateful for the improvements made.
“We look forward to further collaborative projects in the future.”
