Northern are encouraging young people to apply for its industry-leading engineering apprenticeship scheme on World Engineering Day (Friday 4th March).
The rail operator currently employs over 300 apprentices in a variety of roles throughout the business.
Applications for the engineering apprenticeship will be available at Northern depots in Hull, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle and Liverpool.
The deadline for applications is Sunday 13th March.
This follows on from the appointment of Tony Plumbley as the new Head of Engineering at Northern.
Northern commented on the importance of apprenticeships within their business.
Tricia Williams, Chief Operating Officer at Northern said: “We’re looking for the next generation of rail staff to… help us transform the rail network in the North.
“The railway has a proud tradition of welcoming and nurturing talent.
“Several members of our management team – as well as countless other members of staff – started their railway careers as apprentices.
“We want to attract applicants from people who are currently under-represented in our workforce, specifically women and those from ethnic minority groups.
“Our message to prospective employees is that whoever they are and whatever their background, Northern is a great place to work and a great place to forge a career.”
Details of the apprenticeship scheme along with a step-by-step application guide can be found on the Northern website.
World Engineering Day is a UNESCO-organised event which celebrates the contribution of engineers across the globe for a better, more sustainable world.
