Mott MacDonald has announced the reappointment of Glenn Lyons as Chair of Future Mobility, ensuring the organisation remains at the forefront of the evolution of transport planning.
The announcement follows Glenn’s appointment last month as the new President of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) for 2024/25.
The firm will also continue to sponsor Glenn’s position as Mott MacDonald Professor of Future Mobility at the University of the West of England Bristol (UWE Bristol).
Glenn’s tenure with Mott MacDonald and UWE Bristol, which began in January 2018, has been extended by a further three years until the end of 2027. This continued association will provide a vital link between academic excellence, policy and practice.
Since beginning his role at Mott MacDonald, Glenn has cemented the business’s leading position in the transport planning sector, especially in areas such as decide and provide, triple access planning and vision-led planning.
Key achievements of his tenure so far include:
- DfT Futures Programme: Pioneering initiatives under the Department for Transport’s Futures Programme
- Driverless Cars Emulsion: Research in autonomous vehicle integration
- FUTURES: Development of the Future Uncertainty Toolkit for Understanding and Responding to an Evolving Society
- Transport Decarbonisation Plan: Creation of Technology Roadmaps
- Triple Access Planning Handbook for Practitioners: An industry-leading resource for transport practitioners

As well as his role at Mott MacDonald and UWE Bristol, for the next year Glenn will also lead CIHT. Under his leadership, CIHT will continue to focus on climate action, equality, diversity and professionalism. Its programme includes technical outputs, research projects, thought leadership articles, events and increased political influence.
