The High Speed Rail Group (HSRG) has announced the appointment of HS1 Ltd’s Mattias Bjornfors to its board of directors.
Mattias has almost two decades of experience as an economist in infrastructure and regulatory industries.
He is currently the Strategy and Regulatory Director at HS1 Ltd, the operator of St Pancras International and the high-speed rail connection from London to the Eurotunnel. In this role, Mattias is responsible for business development, customer relations and regulatory processes.
Mattias will provide valuable economic guidance to the HSRG with his extensive high-speed rail industry expertise, notably in relation to the success of HS1. His knowledge will help the HSRG to continue advocating in the best interests of high-speed rail in the United Kingdom.
In this regard, Mattias will help to plan for the expansion of the UK’s high-speed rail network, emphasising the economic benefits of advancing the necessary infrastructure developments beyond Birmingham, and will ensure that such initiatives remain a Government priority.
This ambition reflects the recent launch of the HSRG’s five main recommendations to the next Government, which, if implemented, would allow the UK to deliver the new capacity and connectivity needed to improve sustainability.
Members of the HSRG are currently involved in building Phase 1 of HS2. The project has showcased outstanding civil and structural engineering and the use of artificial intelligence to optimise operations and enhance safety, and has utilised construction practices and materials to minimise carbon emissions.
