Network Rail and the Department for Transport have unveiled a five-point plan aimed at enhancing Euston station’s operations and improving passenger experiences during its ongoing redesign.
The station, which some say is in need of modernisation, has been causing significant discomfort for passengers. In response, the Transport Secretary has directed Network Rail and train operators like Avanti West Coast and West Midlands Trains to reassess daily operations and implement immediate improvements.
While a comprehensive overhaul is necessary to meet current demands, the initial five-point plan includes:
- Reviewing Passenger Information and Circulation: This involves shutting down and reassessing the use of overhead advertising boards.
- Improving Boarding Processes: Focusing on how passengers are invited to and board services, especially during disruptions.
- Expanding Concourse Space: Alleviating congestion by creating more space and upgrading toilet facilities.
- Unified Station Operations During Disruptions: Ensuring a coordinated approach to benefit all passengers.
- Enhancing Infrastructure and Service Reliability: Reducing the frequency of disruptive events.
The Transport Secretary views this plan as a crucial first step in addressing overcrowding issues at the station but emphasises that further actions are needed.
Senior Network Rail management will meet with the Secretary of State this week to discuss the station’s plans and outline a path towards long-term improvements for passengers.
