Important repair work is set to commence on the Yeoford bridge in Penstone affecting services between Crediton, Okehampton and Barnstaple.
Network Rail will carry out the work to improve reliability on the important stretch of railway.
Yeoford bridge sees passengers travel on the Dartmoor Line to Okehampton and on the Tarka Line to Barnstaple.
Engineers from Network Rail will be working around the clock over a seven-day period to make a wide range of repairs.
The maintenance work will include repairs to the steelwork and brickwork, renewing parts of the track, grit blasting and painting, water proofing and drainage.
Train services will continue to run between Exeter Central and Crediton whilst the repairs take place.
A rail replacement service will operate from Crediton to Okehampton, Barnstaple and Yeoford as Network Rail complete the repairs.
George Bartlett, Network Rail Scheme Project Manager commented on the work taking place at Yeoford bridge.
Mr Bartlett said: “The repairs we are making to Yeoford bridge are really critical.
“[The repairs will] ensure this well used bridge continues to safely carry passenger services on the Dartmoor and Tarka lines.
“Our engineers will be working tirelessly to complete a large number of improvements.
“We’re grateful to both passengers and local residents for their patience and understanding while we complete this work.”
Mark Chorley, Regional Station Manager West at Great Western Railway spoke on the importance of the maintenance work.
Mr Chorley said: “This work is important to ensure we can continue to maintain and improve resilience.
“We thank customers for their patience in advance.
“We have been working hard to provide as many replacement buses as we can to ensure people can continue to travel confidently and safely.
“We strongly recommend our customers check their times carefully before travelling to ensure a smooth journey with us.”
