Network Rail has announced a series of essential upgrades to take place on the Bakerloo Line and the London Overground this summer.
Over a six-day period from Saturday 3rd August to Thursday 8th August, Network Rail engineers will deliver £2m worth of improvements covering a 16-mile stretch of railway in North London.
The purpose of the upgrades is to renew life-expired equipment which is prone to failure. The scheduled work will improve the reliability of the railway for passengers.
The improvements to be carried out over the six-day period include:
- Renewal of the power system supplying signalling equipment along these lines. This includes the installation of 32.5km of new cabling and a number of lineside power distribution cabinets.
- Upgrading 3km of conductor rail, the part of the track that provides power to the trains.
- Renewal of the high-voltage power system providing power to trains through the conductor rails. This includes replacing 3km of aging 11kv power cables.
- Upgrading track switches and crossings.
Network Rail is making use of the closure to perform several infrastructure upgrade projects both to improve the railway’s efficiency and to prevent future disruption.
The work will affect the Bakerloo Line between Queen’s Park and Harrow and Wealdstone and the London Overground between Euston and Watford Junction.
