Alstom, the French rolling stock manufacturer has unveiled the design of its new Coradia Stream train.
The train, which will be used by Spanish train operator, Renfe is a high-capacity train, able to carry more than 900 passengers across its 6 cars. The increase in capacity will mean an extra 20% more passengers will be able to pass through the busiest rail hubs in the country.
The cars will be a mix of double decker and low floor designs and will also be fully accessible for people with reduced mobility alongside the incorporation of multifunctional spaces for bicycles, suitcases and prams.
One of the key design features for the new model is the introduction of state-of-the-art equipment that is intended to improve reliability and punctuality. In addition to the improved reliability, the new model will allow for thousands of data per second to be collected from the fleet which will be used to aid operational decision making.
The new model will be will be manufactured in Spain, with the first three of the 201 ordered being manufactured currently. Once they are validated and certified in 2024, it is hoped that Alstom will deliver 3-4 trains each month.
The EUR 1.44 billion deal also includes the maintenance and supply of spare parts for 56 of the trains for 15 years.
The Coradia Stream model is a popular model across mainland Europe with it available in both diesel and electric units and flexibility in capacity demands depending on the operator requirements. It also reaches speeds of 200km per hour.
