Strategic Rail Freight Interchange plans ‘not legally flawed’
St Albans council has been refused legal action against the Government for planning permission to build a rail depot on greenbelt land.
Communities’ secretary Eric Pickles stated in December that he was “minded to approve” permission for a Strategic Rail Freight Interchange (SRFI). Developer HelloSlough Ltd has applied for planning permission, but a final decision has not yet been made.
The High Court said that there was no evidence that Pickle’s proposal was “in any way legally flawed” and that the council’s call for a judicial review was “premature”.
A spokeswoman for HelloSlough Ltd said: “We were encouraged that the secretary of state was minded to grant permission in December and we await a decision.”
