Swansea rail station refurbishment a step closer

It was good news for rail jobs as it was announced that a construction contract for works to be carried out at Swansea rail station has been awarded.

The contract has gone to Strategic Team Group, who will carry out the majority of the work to the station front and concourse.

Amanda Hoyland, route enhancement manager for Network Rail, said: “This marks another step closer to transforming Swansea station and we will also be boosting this investment by upgrading the electrical system and structures in the platform area.”

Ian Bullock, customer services director at Arriva Trains Wales, said: “The improvement has been designed specifically to update and in some cases install new facilities including a greater provision of service information, vending facilities, CCTV and an improvement of access all of which contribute to a station fit for the 21st century and we hope will encourage more people to try the train.”
