Loughor Viaduct work on track
Progress is on track for the replacement of Loughor Viaduct in south Wales, Network Rail has reported.
The £48m project is necessary to upgrade rail infrastructure by doubling the track between Swansea and Gowerton.
The launch of the first section of the new bridge deck is due to take place this week, with the first 80 metres of decking now launched into the estuary on temporary concrete support beams.
The project began last June and will facilitate the Gowerton Redoubling scheme, to be carried out by the Welsh Government.
Mark Langman, Network Rail’s route managing director, said: “This vital project is making good progress. Following installation of the support beams, we are now beginning to slot the bridge decking into place and we are still on track for completion next Easter.”
