CILT calls for training to boost accessibility
Train staff should do more to make rail more accessible to older and disabled passengers, new advice urges.
The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) has published a guidance note to highlight the importance of training to deliver accessible services. Empowering Staff: Enabling Passengers demonstrated the business case for consistent equality training, the legal obligations of meeting the needs of older and disabled passengers and tips on how to provide this training.
Almost 50% of blind and partially sighted people would like to travel more often, research found, and a lack of confidence is cited as the biggest single barrier to greater use of public transport.
