Cheadle Hulme station to get facelift

After extensive discussions between Network Rail and Stockport Borough Council, an agreement has been reached over refurbishment works at Cheadle Hulme station.

In a move which will prove good for rail jobs, Network Rail will now put the work out to tender.

Network Rail route director Jo Kaye said: “This is fantastic news for everyone who uses the station but more importantly for those passengers that are unable to travel by train because they cannot manage the stairs for whatever reason.

“By this time next year they will have a whole new range of journey opportunities available to them.”

The project will involve the installation of new lifts and overhead gangways to create better access to the station’s platforms.

Once a bid has been accepted, it is hoped that the work will be completed by mid 2011.
