Balfour Beatty wins £16m Crossrail substation contract

Network Rail has awarded a £16m Crossrail contract to Balfour Beatty, to commission new substations and associated civil works.

This will include the design and construction of eight 25kV Auto Transformer substations and associated civil works located around Shenfield and Pudding Mill Lane, along with the Kensal Green auto transformer feeder station and Maidenhead.

According to Network Rail, Balfour Beatty offered a strong management and safety plan that will utilise the existing west coast delivery team and their experience on Thameslink and northwest electrification, in addition to a strong plan to meet Carbon reduction targets.

Balfour Beatty’s managing director Mark Griffiths said: “We are delighted to be awarded this contract on the Crossrail programme by Network Rail and look forward to delivering a substantial section of the substation network, whilst ensuring that stringent safety and sustainability objectives are achieved.”

Work on the project commences this month and is said to be complete in 2017.
