Call for faster Stansted services
StanstedAirportneeds improved rail links to centralLondon, Stansted’s managing director Nick Barton has argued. Reducing journey times between the airportLondon’sLiverpool Streetstation could boost the economy in the area, he suggested.
Stansted currently processes 18 million passengers a year, but could handle up to 35 million. Half of those who use Stansted arrive by public transport; the highest portion of any bigUKairport.
Journey times are currently 45 minutes; if this was improved to half an hour, it could attract more airlines and a higher inflow of Europeans visiting the area. Barton wants additional track to be laid to accommodate express trains and bring journey times down.
He told the Financial Times: “Connectivity between airport and financial destination is critical.”
