Runcorn to Madrid change at Euston

Few travelling by train from Runcorn to London Euston yesterday would have been surprised to see a group of tracksuited Liverpudlians on their way to a short Mediterranean break. On this occasion, however, it was the Liverpool football team on their way to Spain for their Europa Cup semi-final first leg match against Atletico Madrid.

I understand there is no truth in the rumour that some of the group were detained for fare avoidance nor in the rumour that the dust cloud over the country which has grounded air travel for the last few days was caused by an over enthusiastic cleaning of Manchester City’s trophy cabinet.
