Budget update: £291m for London’s DLR and boost for Transforming Cities Fund

The chancellor Phillip Hammond yesterday announced a boost in funding for London’s Docklands Light Railway and the Transforming Cities Fund.

The DLR will receive £291m from the Housing Infrastructure Fund for support of essential investment, which is aimed at unlocking 18,000 homes in East London.

Hammond also announced that the Transforming Cities Fund will be extended to £2.4bn, to support local and sustainable modes of transport, from rail and trams to busses and cycling.

Greater Manchester will receive £69.5m and the West Midlands will get £71.5m from the pot, with an additional £90m to be spent on creating ‘Future Mobility Zones’ to trial new modes of travel and ticketing.

Also shortlisted for funding from the Fund are the North East Combined Authority, Sheffield City Region, West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Stoke-on-Trent, Derby & Nottingham, Leicester, Norwich, Portsmouth, Southampton and Plymouth.
