First upgraded ScotRail InterCity train arrives in Scotland, rollout completed by late 2019
ScotRail’s first upgraded InterCity train has arrived in Scotland as part of the revamped High Speed Trains (HST) that will connect Scotland’s seven cities.
Making its journey from Doncaster, the renovated set of 26 trains crossed the border on Friday evening ahead of its arrival at the Haymarket depot in Edinburgh.
Set to enter service on the Aberdeen to Edinburgh line once crew training has concluded, the 17 upgraded five-carriage vehicles and the nine four-carriage vehicles will complete their rollout by late 2019, with the refurbished fleet set to connect all seven cities in Scotland.
The remodelled batch of trains will have more seats and luggage space for passengers, and host an improved on-board café area in addition to the standard trolley service.
Transport Scotland rolling stock manager George Davidson said: “This is an important milestone in our efforts to improve capacity on our rail services, alongside an enhanced passenger experience.
“It’s great to see the first of these trains arrive in Scotland and I’m sure they will make a great addition to the ScotRail fleet.”
