LNER launches new in-seat digital platform for enhanced journeys

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) has launched a new digital platform that will centralise information on journeys, train facilities and more for all of the operator’s customers.

The one-stop digital information platform works by customers scanning a QR code on the seat, which allows them to access data on the wider rail network as well as ideas on attractions and places they could visit once their journey is complete.

LNER is introducing the platform across its fleet of trains after working with Whoosh during its development. A feedback mechanism has been added, so customers can contribute to improving the journey experience going forward.

Chief digital and innovation officer at LNER, Danny Gonzalez, said: “We know from our customers just how important it is for them to have the latest information about their journeys.

“At LNER, we believe the digital experience plays a crucial role in helping people enjoy the best possible experience when they travel with us.

“This is just one way we are further enhancing that experience and we will be looking to add more features in the future.”

The platform enables LNER customers to order food and drink to be served to their seats, with the Let’s Eat At Your Seat service.

Customers will also benefit from information on the operator’s loyalty programme, where they can receive £5 for registering and further credit for future journeys.

The news comes just after LNER posted a record for the number of passenger assistance requests in a year, furthering the evidence of the operator’s strong recovery from the pandemic.

More than a quarter of a million passenger assistance requests were recorded between April 2023 and last month.
