Tube Lines manager awarded MBE

A Tube Lines manager has been awarded an MBE in recognition of his contribution to public transport. Peter Forsdick has served transport in London since 1979 when he became a bus engineer following several years of work in vehicle manufacturing. The following year he transferred to London Transport’s distribution services where he has worked ever since, rising to the top of the unit.

Peter now works for Tube Lines, the company rebuilding the Tube’s busiest lines. He heads up distribution services, which employs about 100 people and provides a fleet of vehicles and drivers that transport essential engineering equipment and waste management services across the whole Underground network. Each year distribution services moves more than 50,000 tonnes of goods ranging from small packages to large items of specialist railway equipment in support of the operational railway. The unit also provides long and short term hire cars and vans with a full support service to Tube Lines, Metronet and London Underground.

Since assuming his current role, Peter has led his team at distribution services to develop improved clearance methods for newspapers and other waste, ensuring as much of the 16 tonnes of rubbish removed from the Underground each day is recycled. Last year, 22% of rubbish was recycled, an increase on the previous year. This year, Peter plans to further expand the recycling scheme and is investigating the purchase of a new vehicle to remove recyclable waste from stations, collecting it on a special run.

Terry Morgan, chief executive of Tube Lines, said:
"We're delighted that Peter has been formally recognised in this way. After years of dedication to public transport, he deserves considerable credit. His current work helps keep the Tube running smoothly and his team has been instrumental in enabling the millions of newspapers left on trains each week to be recycled. For that and all his other work, we thank and congratulate him."
